This experiment aims to answer several questions. Firstly, it seeks to determine the nitrogen fixation capacity of the three most important legumes (alfalfa, red clover, and white clover), and secondly, it aims to identify clover-grass mixtures that can subsequently be made available in organic quality.

Another objective is to examine the effect on the subsequent winter cereal crop. Here, the crude protein content and yield are of particular importance.

Project goals:

  • Finding suitable clover grasses for the Austrian Alpine foothills with regard to biomass yield and nitrogen fixation capacity

  • Testing of different mixture ratios of clover and grass on yield, ensilability and nitrogen fixation performance

  • Influence of different clover-grass mixtures on the subsequent winter cereal crop, taking into account grain and protein yield
