Green roofs in the inner Alps - Extensive green roofs using seeds from inner Alpine origins (Green Roof)

In connection with land consumption and soil sealing and the associated loss of near-natural habitats, the extensive roof is coming into focus as one of the possible replacement habitats, also in rural areas.

Currently, extensive roofs are greened with a mixture of sedum shoots and herbs from various origins on standardized substrates of volcanic tuff, crushed brick, and similar materials. Using native and, in some cases, protected species from the semi-dry grasslands of the inner Alpine region on suitable substrates from the region can strengthen native flora and associated fauna in both urban and rural areas. This project will investigate the application of seeds collected from existing semi-dry grassland areas in the region. One variant involves applying the seeds with additional meadow hay, which, compared to applying pure seeds, could result in a greater potential for dispersal of diaspores at the new location (roof surface).

Extensive roofing is also coming into focus in rural areas.
