The “Waldschaf-Tweed” project - a joint project of the Nature Conservation Youth Haslach, the ARGE Waldschaf and the Textilwerkstatt Haslach - serves as a case study for the preparation of a study on indirect funding for the conservation and diverse, sustainable use of rare farm animal breeds. The study was published by the OECD.

Using a case study, a study on positive indirect incentives to conserve biodiversity in agriculture was to be prepared for an OECD white paper.

The joint project 'Forest Sheep Tweed' by the Nature Conservation Youth (NJ) Haslach, the Working Group of Forest Sheep Breeders and the Haslach Textile Workshop serves as the basis. This project includes the following aspects:

    • Conservation of the rare forest sheep breed of livestock in situ
    • Conservation and, if necessary, reintroduction of the Bohemian gentian (G.bohemica) on the nature conservation areas of NJ Haslach through extensive grazing
    • Sustainable use of the resulting sheep's wool through the development, production and marketing of a 'forest sheep tweed'
    • Employment of disabled people in the socio-economic project Textilwerkstatt Haslach
