Nutrient losses under different storage conditions – open storage or storage under a roof – can be determined. Building permit procedures impose various requirements on businesses. Some building authorities mandate roofing, others do not. To provide clear decision-making support, the different storage conditions are simulated under controlled conditions. This should allow for conclusions to be drawn regarding the necessary structural requirements.
Liquid emissions under different storage conditions must be accurately known and specified. Nutrient losses are to be expected during the storage of manure. Nitrogen losses are currently estimated at 40% (poultry manure excluding turkeys) and 45% (turkey manure, sheep and goat manure). The planned project will verify whether these loss figures are still valid under different storage conditions (covered/uncovered).
