Arbuscular mycorrhiza (AM) in grassland farming and landscaping

As part of the EU project FAIR CT98-4024 “Seed Propagation of Indigenous Species and their Use for Restoration of Eroded Alpine Areas” (coordinator Dr. Bernhard Krautzer), the effect was also examined at 7 locations using different source material and at different altitudes throughout the Alpine arc inoculated VAM without accompanying fertilization compared to the currently common greening methods.

The results of the first two years of the study show a surprisingly good performance of these variants, especially in combination with the use of site-appropriate seed mixtures. A quantitative and qualitative analysis of the VAM colonization of the roots of the different variants on initially one test site should provide information about the actual effect of inoculated VAM.
